Windows Setup Guide

The following guide is designed for new Outcast CloudStream customers who want to stream from their own PC using Winamp.

1 – Download and install Winamp

  • Download Winamp from winamp.com
  • Install Winamp normally following the prompts. (We suggest you do not install the Winamp Toolbar or eMusic downloads)

2 – Download and install EdCast

During the installation process, EdCast DSP will ask which encoder options you wish to install. Do NOT select AAC at this point, as the required encoder library is already installed as part of Winamp

3 – Start Winamp, and configure the EdCast DSP plugin

Start Winamp, then enter the plugin configuration options screen. (Ctrl-K, or right click on the player and choose ‘Select Plug-in‘)

Select DSP/Effect from the list on the left, and click once on edcast DSP v3

In the Edcast DSP window, select Add Encoder

Edcast config step 1

Once an encoder appears, double click on it’s name in the box to enter the settings page.

Edcast config step 2

In the settings page, select the following options: (select the Encoder Type first)

  • Encoder Type: FHGAAC-HE     (or HE-AAC)
  • Bitrate: 64
  • Samplerate: 44100
  • Channels: 2
  • Server Type: Icecast2
  • Server IP: [Server hostname as provided to you during signup with Outcast]
  • Server port: 8000
  • Encoder Password: [Password provided to you during signup with Outcast]
  • Mountpoint: [Mountpoint provided to you during signup with Outcast. Must start with a /]
  • Reconnect Seconds: 10
  • Attenuation: 0.0

Edcast config step 3

Select the YP Settings button, and enter your stations basic details.

Public Server means that your station will be listed in public radio directories, and should be ticked for most Outcast customers.

Edcast config step 4

Click OK to close the configuration window

4 – Start Streaming

Click Connect to connect to the streaming server.

The Transfer Rate column should show the status of the connection, including any errors.

If everything goes well, this column should read ’64kbps’. (sometimes may read 63kbps, this is fine)

Edcast config step 4

Leaving the Edcast window open, switch back to the Winamp window and start playing some audio.

You should now be streaming!

5 – Verify your stream is working

  • Log in to the Outcast Digital website, and view your stream in the ‘My Streams’ area. If all is well, you should have three green ticks.
  • Listen to your stream on another computer using the Outcast Player flash widget. Paste the following URL into any web browser (replacing mountpoint with the mountpoint you were given during Outcast signup – WITHOUT the leading /)

http://www.outcastdigital.com/assets/outcastplayer.swf?stream=mountpoint

  • Open your stream directly using a media player such as Winamp, iTunes, or VLC using the following URL (replacing mountpoint with the mountpoint you were given during Outcast signup)

http://ice1.outcastdigital.com:8000/mountpoint

Some tips:

  • Set up your playlist in Winamp with plenty of content, and don’t forget to select the Loop button!
  • If you are using a professional sound card, you may find you need to set the sample rate to 48000 to avoid audio corruption.
  • By default the VU meters in the Edcast panel are not active. Click on the gray box (to the left of ‘RMS Meter‘) to activate them.
